The Hunter’s ½ Mount gives four advantages to the taxidermists and hunter over a standard ½ mount. To the hunter the “2” advantages are that the mount does not cost as much as other ½ mounts, and it doesn’t sick out from the wall as far as a standard ½ mount. The advantage to you, the taxidermist, is that you can mount the Hunter’s ½ Mount much quicker than any other ½ mount. The second advantage is that you do not have to charge as much because it does mount up quicker, which results in more of your customers waning this style, bringing more money into your shop. I would like to tell you the reason I designed the Hunter’s ½ mount the way I did. As a rule, I don’t like ½ mounts on because the legs seem to always be wrong and look unnatural. They always come out from the wall so far, and they take up too much room. So here is what I did. First I sculptured a deer with the legs and shoulders right on the money (as far as leg width and shape are concerned). I made sure I sculptured the legs and shoulders to achieve a masculine look and not a narrow legged feminine look. I cut of the back ¼ of the legs, so the back of the legs are flat against the wall. Now, the benefits; you don’t have to sew the legs-just pin and glue the skin around the back of the legs like you do your skin for the shoulders. Imagine doing a ½ mount and not having to sew any legs. Now your base tends to look more natural, since it doesn’t come out from the wall as far, saving you and the customer, money. The Hunter’s ½ Mount will add a little variety to your showroom and impress your customers, and give them a new unique option.
